Assignment #1 Final in progress - Marian's

Hi guys,

I'm still working on the promo illustration, but I just wanted to check with you guys at the in progress stage. Right now I'm building on the underpainting and the eyes aren't quite finished yet and the hair needs highlights still.

It's in oils so it's still wet and I can't make a good scan yet, so I tried to take the best pic I can using my mac cam.

Thoughts on color? I'm not quite happy with the dark background and I'm not sure how to go about it.

Help anyone?

Hel'z new card

I started a new sketch for my card, trying to make it a little more visually interesting. I'm not so sure about the placement of the speech bubble or the smoke cloud yet. Other Suggestions? Comments?

I don't really know that this piece will be my final, so I want to work on it more. What do you think?

Hey y'all, finally got around to getting the revised sketch done. Still not sure how I want the hair to fall exactly. Do you guys think more hair falling across the real face could work or would that be distracting?

Here is my final sketch. I simplified the illustration a little bit; the bee in the front was a little distracting What do you guys think about the font?

Instead of the final being due this Sunday, I think it might help most of us to post up revised sketches.

Ideally, you should start playing around with the type placement on your business card or postcard. And if you're not satisfied with your sketches you should post something new up. Finalize your drawings, push yourself!

Assignment 1: Business Card/ Promotion

Assignment:

Promotional piece or business card, something to give away to people, showcase your work.

Some guidelines:

If you're doing a business card, i'd go with 3.5 x 2 inches, as that seems to be a common dimension, also, keep in mind the shape, texture, thickness of your card.
And since we're illustrators, think about having a graphic or illustration on the card. Maybe using one side of the card for your contact info, and the other side just being an image.

If you're doing a postcard, 6 x 4 inches is the standard. However, you'll probably only have one side to work with, but you'll have a larger area too.

As always, give at least 1/8 in of space for bleed!!!

Info on the card/promo piece should have:

Your name
E-mail
Website
Maybe your phone number too.

Due Dates:

Sketches Due: Sunday, Oct. 3rd

Finals Due: Sunday, Oct. 10th
